FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a support for mounting a raised surface comprising a base part positioned on an underlying surface, a support part for supporting a raised surface, a connecting part connecting the base part and the support part, and a elastic layer connected to the base member for contacting the underlying surface.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Elevated surface support systems are commonly used for all types of applications such as raised roofs, terraces or technical floors for exterior and interior applications. One example can be found in GB 2 378 457, which describes support systems for floors, ceilings and walls.
A general aspect to be taken into account when mounting such an elevated surface is that it results in a sufficiently flat and stably raised platform and in many cases also soundproof raised platforms.
With regard to another aspect, it is particularly important for outdoor applications not to damage the underlying surface or the support due to the difficulty of gaining access and associated costs. In addition, damage may occur in the event that it is underlying
BE2014 / 0849 surface degradation, even more extensive due to water infiltration.
However, the supports known in the art cannot overcome these problems if the underlying surface is made of materials containing PVC.
In view of the above disadvantages, it is an object of the present invention to provide a support for supporting a raised surface, which is suitable for being installed on underlying surfaces containing PVC, without damaging the surface and still maintaining the functionalities in terms of compensating for minor irregularities in the underlying surface, anti-slip, noise and vibration damping.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a support for supporting a raised surface that will provide improved stability.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a support for supporting a raised surface that will significantly reduce mounting time and costs.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a support for supporting a raised surface that provides improved stability on underlying surfaces, which suffer from significant roughness or irregularities, resulting in a better balanced raised surface.
BE2014 / 0849
It is another object of the present invention to provide a support for supporting an elevated outdoor surface that provides adequate stability after being exposed to a number of freezing and thawing cycles.
Summary of the invention
The present invention addresses the needs identified above by providing a support for a raised surface, comprising: a base part for positioning on an underlying surface, an elastic layer connected to the base part for contacting said underlying surface, a support part for supporting a raised surface and connectable to the base part, a connecting part connecting the base part and the support part, characterized in that said elastic layer comprises a plastic foam layer which is chemically inert with respect to PVC.
It is preferred that the elastic layer comprises polyethylene (PE), polyethylene (PE) foam, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) foam, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) foam or polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) foam or a mixture thereof.
It is further preferred that the elastic layer be connected to the base member prior to mounting.
The present invention is further directed to a method for manufacturing a support as defined above, wherein said method comprises the steps of:
BE2014 / 0849 manufacture of a basic part; manufacturing a support member; providing an elastic layer, wherein the elastic layer is permanently fixed to the base member.
Brief description of the drawings
FIG. 1 illustrates an embodiment of a support for supporting a raised surface according to the present invention. Description of the invention
In the context of the present invention, the raised surface area (d) means a raised roof terrace, raised apartment terrace, raised garden terrace, an outdoor stage, a raised technical floor for indoor / outdoor, raised floor for indoor and the like.
In the context of the present invention, the underlying surface (b) means the ground, the roof, the platform, the conventional building floor between floors or any other construction on which the raised surface is to be installed.
According to a first embodiment of the present invention and as illustrated in FIG. 1, a raised surface support (d) is provided, comprising: a base member (a) for positioning on an underlying surface (b), an elastic layer (e) connected to the base part (a) for making contact with said underlying surface (b), a support part (c) for supporting a raised surface (d) and connectable to the base part (a), a connecting part (f), connecting the base part (a) and the support part (c) to the
BE2014 / 0849, characterized in that said elastic layer (e) comprises a plastic foam layer, which is chemically inert and is PVC-resistant.
The applicant has realized for the first time that damage to surfaces containing PVC is caused by chemical interaction between PVC and materials containing base parts, which are not inert with regard to PVC, such as, for example, rubber.
Thus, by having the elastic layer (e) made of a material that is chemically inert to PVC, the support of the present invention has no limitation with regard to being mounted on underlying surfaces (b) based on concrete, wood, PVC or the like. The durability of the finished raised surface (d) is considerably increased because no chemical interaction will occur on the underlying surface (b) or on the surface of the elastic layer (e). In addition, all support features are retained throughout the life of the component materials.
By using such a support, the total maintenance and inspection costs are significantly reduced because neither the underlying surface (b) nor the supports used should be replaced after a relatively long period of time.
In addition, due to the fact that the elastic layer (e) is a plastic foam layer, problems such as surface irregularities such as small bumps or small differences in level are overcome.
BE2014 / 0849. Furthermore, due to the fact that said elastic layer (e) is attached to said base member (a), the support according to the present invention provides increased stability before and after mounting the raised surface (d).
By using an elastic layer (e), installers do not have to provide separate roofing or patches so that the underlying surface (b) is not damaged, especially when the support is exposed to high vertical loads. By not being forced to install separate pieces of material or roofing material, this will clearly result in less labor-intensive installation, in improved efficiency, less material costs and less installation costs.
Another advantage is that, because the elastic layer (e) is an integral part of the base part (a) of the support, water cannot penetrate between them. Even after exposure to a number of freeze / thaw cycles, adequate stability can be guaranteed.
In a particular embodiment of the present invention, said connecting part (f) comprises means for varying the distance between the base part (a) and the support part (c), such that the height of the support is adjustable depending on the application. Preferably, the means for varying the distance may comprise a lift stand system.
The elastic layer (e) of the support according to the present invention has a thickness of
BE2014 / 0849 at least 2 mm, of 2-25 mm, of which 4-20 mm or of 6-15 mm.
By having an elastic layer (e) with this range of thickness, a support according to the present invention is useful in applications where the size and frequency of the bumps is significant, such as, for example, concrete with aggregates with different nominal maximum diameters.
This important feature leads to another advantage of the present invention: since the elastic layer (e) makes direct contact with the underlying surface (b) and since its elasticity causes its thickness to be locally adjusted by applying pressure thereto, improved stability on underlying surfaces (b) with low or even significant roughness or irregularities such as bumps can be obtained, resulting in improved stability and a better balanced raised terrace, stage or floor.
An additional advantage of having an elastic layer (e) in contact with the underlying surface (b) is that shock is absorbed on the raised surface (d), not by the support itself or by the underlying surface (b), but through the elastic layer (e).
Furthermore, due to the elastic layer (e), a support according to the present invention can have improved sound-absorbing capacity and can show improved anti-slip characteristics, i.e. the support can adhere more firmly to the underlying surface (b).
BE2014 / 0849
In an embodiment of the present invention, the support comprises an elastic layer (e) with a coefficient of friction of at least 0.3 or at least 0.5 or at least 0.6.
In an additional embodiment of the present invention, the elastic layer (e) comprises polyethylene (PE), polyethylene (PE) foam, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) foam, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) foam, or polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) foam or a mixture thereof or any type of plastic or plastic foam, which is chemically inert with regard to PVC.
The base part (a) and the support part (c) can be made from any plastic suitable for extrusion or injection molding, such as polypropylene, low or high density polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, ethyl vinyl acetate, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene or polyolefin or a combination thereof .
In another embodiment of the present invention, the elastic layer (e) is treated with biofungicidal or biocidal substances. This feature will make the support of the present invention usable in all types of environmental conditions with different humidity characteristics, without the risk of damage to health due to fungicide growth. Furthermore, it will cover the underlying surface (b) as well. protect against unwanted damage from insects, which makes the support according to the present invention safer for use for a prolonged period of time without the need for inspection or additional maintenance costs.
BE2014 / 0849
Furthermore is the present invention also targeting a method for the manufacture of a of such support, comprising: manufacturing of a basic part (a), the manufacture of a carrier part (c) it manufacture of a connecting part (f) that the basic part (a) and it carrier part (c) connects, providing a elastic low (e), with the characteristic that the elastic low (e) permanent to the base part (a) is going to be fixed.
In one embodiment of the present invention, said fixing can be performed by welding. Other methods include casting, gluing or compression molding.
Furthermore, said elastic layer (e) is chemically inert with respect to PVC. It may furthermore be polyethylene (PE), polyethylene (PE) foam, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) foam, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) foam or polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) foam or a mixture thereof or any type of plastic or plastic foam which is chemically inert with regard to PVC.
In an embodiment of the present invention, said connecting member (f) may be a separate component and not connected to said base member (a) or said support member (c). Preferably said connecting part (f) is connected to at least one of the two: the carrier part (c) and / or the base part (a).
Furthermore, said support part (c) can have different diameters, depending on the
BE2014 / 0849 application and the load characteristics of the finished raised surface (d).
Because a connecting part (f) can be selected on the basis of the required load characteristics of the finished raised surface (d), the support according to the present invention is not limited to certain types of applications and the base part (a) and support part (c) can different applications are used or reused. This feature significantly reduces manufacturing costs and at the same time reduces assembly costs to a minimum.
Moreover, the present invention provides a method for manufacturing a support as described above, comprising obtaining a plastic foam composition and subjecting the composition to compression molding to form the elastic layer (e).
The base part (a) and carrier part (c) can be subjected to injection molding or extrusion, preferably after the elastic layer (e) already manufactured has been placed in the mold, such that during the injection molding or extrusion process the plastic is at least partially attached to the mold. elastic layer (e) is adhered and even, without being bound by theory, penetrated into the pores of the elastic layer (e).
Furthermore, a support according to the present invention can be used as a pedestal.
